Group Dating May be a Better Alternative for Couples
Dating can be a great experience for many people, but some, especially those who are new to the concept, can find it stressful and awkward. If both lovers feel uncomfortable being alone by themselves, why not try group dating, where you can be on an outing with friends?
This type of dating is especially common among high-schoolers, who do not have enough experience to feel comfortable with one-on-one dating. The presence of other companions often removes the pressure of being on an actual date, but still provides opportunities for couples to bond together. It is often reassuring for teenagers to know that they can always fall back to their friends if the date goes wrong or they are trapped in an awkward situation. It is especially common for couples to bring a bunch of friends along to the mall, so one can always talk to a friend if things become awkward or he or she needs advice about what to do next. All that elbow-nudging and pressuring to kiss your date may be good in the long run, as it can start a fire between you and your partner. These friends are also very effective in breaking those notorious awkward silences, making the date seem more smooth and enjoyable for both. Having friends can add life to a conversation and prevent it from becoming dry, which is a common pitfall of many otherwise successful dates.
One common problem with group dating, however, is that there may not be enough time alone with your date if you bring along too many friends. It is usually best to invite 2 or 3 friends, so there is the right balance of company and privacy during the experience. The friends who are invited must be good friends; good enough to understand when to walk away for a while and leave space for you and your date. Being a good friend on a group date requires a lot of responsibility, but it can be an extremely helpful favor for those friends who are too shy, too nervous, or would simply like a little bit of company on their date. Another common problem is if one partner brings along friends that only he knows, as this can make it awkward for the date because she will not know anybody in the group. It may take some pressure off the one who brought his friends, but it will become more awkward for partner and can cause the date to end badly. Sometimes on group dates, couples also bring friends who are rude and unsuitable for group dating. These "friends" may even make advances on one of the partners or intrude on their private moments, ruining any chances for the couple to bond.
If the right friends are chosen, however, they can enhance the dating experience and remove pressure from those who are nervous about one-to-one dating. For those who seem to have the issue of too much "ice" building up between them and their date, it may be best to opt for a group date in order to become comfortable with the date and transition slowly into one-on-one dating.
